If you remember this post, I had a sneak peek of Lala's new pants(HERE). These pants are my absolute favorite bottoms on Lala hands down. I wish I could take credit for this design. It's so comfy, stylish and goes with anything, but I owe it all to Wunway. If you haven't heard of them, it's an absolute MUST you go and visit their shop. Wunway is comprised of three mothers with an affinity for great design and self expression.

Brilliant.
When I saw these pants, I had to make them. The pattern is pretty straight forward, requiring only 2 pattern pieces. From cutting to sewing, the time to make these babies took well under an hour. So this a perfect quick project during nap time.
I have made a total of 7 of these lovelies, but these are my top 3 faves.
This one I added front pockets and a band on the waist. By adding the pockets, it makes the pants more poofy. I love it! The pockets are deep... perfect for stashing little trinkets.
Speaking of trinkets... it's Hot Wheels.
This particular design required me to have 4 pattern pieces. Still easy to make!
Okay... if I had to narrow it down even more and pick one favorite, this would be it.
I had left over fabric from Lala's linen dress (posted HERE), and I wanted to have a nautical feel to it.
So I added oversized pockets to both sides with grommets along the edge and used rope trim to close the pockets. I had originally made a pair with one pocket on the side (pant #6) and the pocket was grossly too big and it looked really wonky. That I did NOT love. So pant #7 (this one) was it.
This I love!
Now I have another sneak peek of another project...
accessories!!!
Lala loves her bling.
This I'll show you another time...

So I'm wondering...
would you be interested in a tutorial for these pants?
Let me know!
***
I would be very interested in a tutorial! I've made Sarouels for tiny babies before, but I am never sure how long to make the rise and how wide to make the curve between the legs. They were gifts, so I haven't seen them actually on a body. Love the photos and thank you in advance if you make a tutorial!
ReplyDeleteYou should've seen my face when I was figuring out the rise. I thought, "OMG, let's just put straps on top and it can be overalls".
DeleteI'll let you know about the tutorial. :)
these are so awesome. She is the coolest.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jessica! It's in the blood... ;P
DeleteYes! A tutorial would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know! ;)
DeletePlease don't make a tutorial for a design that belongs to someone else. It is, at best, unethical, and, at worst, copyright infringement. You are awesome and Wunway is awesome. Making something for your daughter that is inspired by one of their designs is an homage. Leave it at that. If one of your readers would like those pants they should work it out for themselves or buy them from Wunway. I know this sounds harsh. But think about the day when you want to commercialize one of your great ideas...
ReplyDeleteAh... good point. Yes, I totally understand and agree. Perhaps I wasn't very clear on my tutorial. I was planning to make a tutorial based on the overall "shape" or "bones" of the pants, NOT the same design as Wunway. Good heavens no! I think the pants itself is a very basic pattern and I've seen it used in many different forms and so I thought it would be harmless to do a tutorial on creating the framework.
DeleteI have been creating jewelry and designing aprons for about 15 years now and I have had many discussions with other designers/bloggers in regards to copyright infringement. It's a very touchy subject and I myself have dealt with others copying my works... it sucks and please know that it was never my intention to use Wunway's pants for the tutorial.
Thank you Rebecca for voicing your concern, I truly appreciate it any comments be it flattery or constructive. I hope I cleared up any misunderstanding...
:)
I would like to politely disagree with Rebecca. The pattern for these pants is so very basic, and harem pants have been around for quite some time. Suburbia Soup, I think that your twist on the pockets is adorable! I also think that passing down tips, know how, and patterns has gone on since the beginning of time...is there really any NEW creation? Please, I think that you should rethink doing a tutorial...I don't necessarily need one, but I know that it would bless many a mommy and creator of children's clothes. Love your blog...you seem to have good heart! <3
DeleteO, these pants truly are awesome! They look so comfy and cool (and your little girl has the perfect attitude for them!).
ReplyDeleteThank you! I wish I could pull off wearing these... than I'd have one for everyday of the week!!!
DeleteThe pictures with the last pair are priceless. I have to admit these weren't my favorite style when I first saw them popping up- but they are really growing on me. And your versions have great character!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw Sophie from Cirque Du Bebe make hers in knits, I knew someday I had to make one and then when I saw Wunway's site, and theirs in a woven, I knew that was it. There's so many different styles of this pant out there... it's finding the right style and fit to make it work. It took me 7 pairs to get 3 that were perfect. I can sew these babies with my eyes closed!
DeleteHey there, I managed to make sarouels n woven - not as great as yours, but I kinda like he shape...
