22 animal sleeves

You can wear more than just your heart on your sleeve.

How about a raccoon or a bear or even a fox? I was inspired by Jennifer of Parrish Platz who made a panda sleeve shirt for her little one. Check it out over here.

The hardest part of the creating process was figuring out an animal.

A raccoon!

I remember Rachael from Imagine Gnats did a series called, "Raccoons The New Black". It was really cute. So I thought I'd give it a go.

Since the raccoon was going to be on the sleeve I didn't want to have too many layers as it might be too stiff for movement and comfort. First, I cut the sleeves out and marked the centers to help with placement of the faces. Then I cut out pieces for the face using black flannel with fusible web on the backside. Next, I placed the eye detail and nose onto the sleeve and ironed it. Once it was fused, I did a decorative zig-zag stitch along the edge of the nose and around the eyes. The eyes are buttons and the ears are black flannel with white piping that was sewn into the seams. Quite a few steps, but it came together fairly easy. The blouse is a pattern I have used before (seen here) from this book.

The vest is a pattern from Cucito Babies And Toddlers Magazine, 2011 Winter and Early Spring volume. I tried to locate it for you if you were interested in purchasing it, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Sorry. The fabric is this suuuuper yummy sherpa fabric I had bought from Fabricworm last year. I had originally wanted to make a throw blanket, but now that we're getting into warmer weather, I opted for a vest. At least now she can wear her blanket, right?

Now the pants...

Okay this deserves it's own post. I'm sooo in love with the harem/sarouel pants at the moment. I've already made quite a few and I promise to talk more about it later. I know... I'm such a tease...

19 Bah-Bah Black Sheep

I believe this is Charlie Tunic #5. I'm the type of person who'll have one style of cardigan in every color. Weird? Nah... I just know you can never have too many good sweaters. The same goes for sewing patterns. If I like it, I'll make a gazillion in different variations.

This time around I made the tunic minus the sleeves. Perfect for this time of the year... a great layering piece.

The fabric is of Japanese linen/cotton blend from Kiyohara. You can find it here. The accent fabric is from JoAnn's and the buttons were from another local fabric shop.

Layering is key here. Warm or cold, it's great to have options and not to mention, maximizes your wardrobe. I'm all for that!

Okay Crocs... do you love 'em or hate 'em? Mr. loves his (personally, I think grown men should NOT wear these things) and Lala does too. She has both red and orange pairs and the first couple of weeks she had them, she literally wore them 24 hours a day. The only time she'd take them off was during bath time. Good grief! The shoes claim to not stink... I BEG to differ. Lala's feet were pretty ripe after a few days.

Eeesh!

Only two and already has a shoe fetish...

21 Lala's Cowl Neck Tunic

After making a cowl neck tunic for Lily Moon, I had to make one for Lala.

I added big pockets with a slight gathering on the side. I think next time I need to add more gathering.

The fabric for the top is from JoAnn's and I lucked out... it was on sale (half off) and so I spent a total of $5. Not too shabby. The leggings are from Old Navy. 

Okay, so I made a cowl neck for Lily Moon, Lala and next, Sophia. Stay tuned...

 Sometimes I have an entire outfit all laid out in head and other times it's one piece that leads to another. This is the "other" times. The cardigan is the seed and the rest grew from that.

This is a great book.

Easy to follow instructions and what I really like about this book is most of the patterns are in both children's and adults.

Lily Moon had to dance in the back to get Lala to smile. First a cookie... now dancing... what next... a pony?!

21 Raglan Remix and Linen Dress Link Up

I'm pretty jazzed about this outfit.

My inspiration for the dress was a skirt Karen had made. Without sacrificing the graphics of the fabric, she used the selvedge edge as the hem of her skirt.
Brilliant. Just brilliant.
For the top, I actually saw this picture(above) on the KCWC Community Board on Pinterest a while back. If there was one in my size, I'd sooo have it.

For the top, I altered my raglan tee pattern that I made from Jess' Raglan Tee Tutorial. The main fabric is organic french terry knit. Okay... can I just tell you how delicious this fabric is? It's sooo soft, like you've had it for years. My only gripe is I wish I bought more.

Fall here is a mix bag. One day it can be cold, the next hot, wet then dry... you get the picture. So it's always wise to dress in layers. 

The dress is a simple pattern I made using Lala's camisole. See the bottom edge on the skirt? Yah...cool. For the fabric, I used linen. You can still wear linen in the fall right? Eeesh... I just don't want the fashion police after my child. *wink*

Today is Lala's special day... she turns 2 today.

8 WKWW (Lala's Pierrot Tunic)

Wednesday already?!

I saw this pattern a while back over at Rae's blog. I liked it, but didn't get it, but when I saw this fab fabric on sale over at Fabricworm I instantly knew what to make.

I made the hoodie scarf just recently and it goes well with dress. Nothing like the right the accessory to complete the outfit... HA! Like she cares.

5 What Lala Wore Wednesday (WKWW link-up)

Hi!

Eeesh... still warm over in our neck of the woods. It's good and bad.

GOOD: Lala still fits into her summer clothes.

BAD: We're not summer peeps.

But since it's Wednesday, I thought I'd share something I sewn earlier in the summer but never got around to sharing.

Fabric: Organic stretch knit from Spoonflower

The shirt is a pattern from a Japanese pattern book, Simple Design Boys and Girls Clothes. You can get the book HERE.

The top was easy and quick. I particularly like the yoke detail. For the skirt, I just drew up a simple pattern. I loved this outfit so much I had to make another in orange (picture above). You can see these outfits got a lot of use. A bit faded, but the quality of the fabric itself is just awesome. Well worth the price.

Goodness... now if only fall would just get here so Lala can start wearing her new clothes...
